At U-City Family Church we are committed to helping people develop into spiritually mature followers of Jesus Christ. If you think about growing a large tree, its roots have to be sunk deeply in order to spread new branches higher. In Step 2 of our Next Steps sessions we dive into six practices to take you deeper in your walk with Christ. These practices don't save us but are an expression of our love for God and others in response to his initiative in salvation. Plan to attend Next Steps this Sunday and scroll down to review the six MATURE practices.

We are not meant to remain as children . . . but to grow up in every way into Christ. Ephesians 4:14-15
The scriptures teach us that the moment we receive Christ, we are given a new identity - one that is blameless and holy. However, to mature in our new identity, we must chip away at the old attitudes and behaviors that were part of our old lives.
[P]ut off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires . . . . put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24
Mature followers of Jesus should be the most generous people on the planet. We have been given much so we should give much. Start with these basic principles:
- Priority: Give Him the first fruit, not the leftovers
- Percentage: Consistent and generous
- Progressive: As God blesses you, increase over time
Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. . . . No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Matthew 6:19-24
God has given every person specific gifts to be used for the benefit of others. We are all to work together using our various gifts and strengths to build each other up and advance our mission of "Bringing people and God together in love."
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
We were never meant to walk through life alone. God designed every believer to grow together as part of an intentional community. Take opportunities to start and build strong Christian relationships.
Let us not give up on the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage each other. Hebrews 10:25
We share the love of Christ with others through words and deeds. As followers of Jesus, we are called to share the message of Christ with others. We should invite others into the MATURE process to grow in their walk with Christ.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20
Listen to this short sermon as Pastor Brent unpacks the mystery of growing deeper and reaching higher as a follower of Jesus.
I want you to know how hard I am contending for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:1-7
